4:21 Now give orders that these men cease their work and that this city not be rebuilt until such time as I so instruct. ¹

The Leaders Who Returned with Ezra

8:1 These are the leaders ⁶  and those enrolled with them by genealogy who were coming up with me from Babylon during the reign of King Artaxerxes:

[6:4]  ² tn Aram “stones of rolling.”

[6:4]  ³ tc The translation follows the LXX reading חַד (khad, “one”) rather than the MT חֲדַת (khadat, “new”). If the MT reading “new” is understood to mean freshly cut timber that has not yet been seasoned it would seem to be an odd choice for construction material.

[6:4]  ⁴ tn Aram “let be given.”

[8:1]  ⁶ tn Heb “the heads of their families.”
